How informed are you?

If you have had breast cancer surgery, finding the right bra for you can make all the difference.  A good supporting non-wired bra is recommended until the scarring has healed and the swelling has gone down.  If you have had reconstruction, avoid underwired bras for at least 12 months after surgery to avoid the breast taking the shape of the underwire.

Features of a bra suitable for use after breast cancer surgery: 

• A non-wired style in a comfortable fabric
• Deep sides to the bra to avoid any pressure on the scars
• Avoid seamfree cups after a reconstruction, as they can leave a puckering around the nipple area
• Underwiring is optional but should only be worn when the scarring has healed
• If you have had reconstruction, underwiring should only be worn when the reconstruction has settled
